The temple is counted among the 52 Shakti Peethas, and it is believed that the head of Goddess Sati fell here after her immortal body was dismembered by Lord Vishnu’s ‘Sudarshan Chakra’.

The Surkanda Devi Temple is perched atop a hill at an elevation of about 10,000 feet (above sea level), and it offers awe-inspiring views of the Himalayan expanse.

You can either trek up to the temple from Kaddukhal or you may use the ropeway to reach the temple (but at your own expense).
